Getting to South Africa

Hello,

I am not a frequent user but I am hoping for some help. Our family is planning a trip to South Africa and Botswana next August. We have:
272K miles on my United
250K miles on my husband's United
488K ultimate rewards points from our chase sapphire

Can you recommend the best way to use these miles for our family of 5 to get there and back in business/first class? Can we buy tickets and use the miles to upgrade? Is it fewer miles/better availability if we go through Europe? Can we fly into one country and out of the other or is it better to fly in and out of South Africa? Any advice would be appreciated and I will also post in the South Africa and United forums in case those are better places. Thanks!
