LAX frequency reduction?

I was booked on CX897 in late September... I was moved to CX881 all of a sudden without notice. Checking some dates in September and October, I found that seemingly at random, some days offer four LAX-HKG frequencies, a lot of dates three, but sometimes the daytime flight offered is 885 and sometimes 897. On my date, 897 is no longer on the schedule. Is this a glitch? I can't figure out the pattern of why the frequencies are like this.

Yes, it make no sense to fly 4x daily on low season. I think they just look at whatever flights that not being filled, cancel it and move the pax to other flights.

CX should try to play this games on the LHR-HKG route.
EC261/2004 will hunt them - rightfully so.

Might have something to do with the rumored LAX-HKG on AA?

I'd expect CX to go the opposite direction and add flights if AA tries to get in on the action.

This could just be due to MAD starting and BOS frequency going up that CX finds itself short of 77Ws. And due to a very unhappy group of pilots they can't count on enough A350 crews to take over as many flights as they hoped?

Not if they do it 14 days in advance.

It does seem odd that there are two flights that are an hour apart.

Wirelessly posted (beckoa's BB: Mozilla/5.0 (BB10; Kbd) AppleWebKit/537.35+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/10.3.2.858 Mobile Safari/537.35+)

CX897 is no longer operating on the 22 (9:25 AM departure) and the noonish is J only.

Was notified a couple days ago- probably will try to reroute from ORD if space, just prefer LAX for lounges.

As AA now reveal they are launching LAX-HKG the reduction now makes sense, as more AA-flyer will now change to the AA metal flight for SWU and Main Cabin Extra, and price for the code share flight may increased accordingly as well.
