actually, SFO base can fly some limited intra-Asia routes as well. I think SIN and perhaps one or two others.

Not true. YVR-base fly both YVR-HKG, and YVR-JFK return.
That has been my experience flying JFK-YVR-HKG. All the YVR-based crew in my cabin would deplane at YVR ex-JFK.
