YVR-HKG Redemption

Hi, I have a bunch of Asia Miles from my credit card and I want to redeem a round trip ticket to Hong Kong. I'm open to any class, econ or premium econ, or business class.

But I'm having a hard time finding any dates available in August 2015. They are all on waitlist.

What are chancse of these waitlist clearning?

I'm flexible with my dates and time (837/889), but would like to arrive Hong Kong by the 3rd week of August to attend a friend's wedding.

Is this a high season...or shoulder season? I would assume any elementary school kids would have left YVR->HKG late June or July already.

Any insights or tips would help.

Thanks ^

Try booking closer in-that is when CX tends to release more U class inventory (if going for business.)
Y I have never redeemed using CX AM as it is poor value.

Yvr's been a super PITA when not redeemed on a 360-day basis.

I've started a HKG-YVR-HKG redemption in August last year for a mate, YVR-HKG on 3Jul cleared, but the inbound on 19-21Jun stubbornly refuses to clear.

Already pushed the deadline to latest 15Jun. Any later and I need to cut off the return on its own and try to redeem when it opens at T-82 again like http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/catha...l#post24217952

Try JL via NRT, and alternatively, if you can, route via LAX, SFO.

I think you are a bit late for the busiest travel period of the year (leisure travellers). I haven't seen any availability on CX for quite a while. The JL early booking windows with excellent availability have passed and now all that's left is last minute availability (within 10 days if any seats remain).

As a comparison point, I booked JL SIN-NRT-YVR for July 2015 travel in Oct 2014 (8 months advance notice). I didn't see any cathay availability at that time either.

Urgggh. Looking today for the dates my friends and colleagues want to fly (which is inevitably June, July, August or February Chinese New Year), any J or even F availability is treated like a unicorn sighting...

I'm starting to think Canada (or at least YVR, YYZ is a little better) is a place populated with unicorns, not beavers.

Even for SYD I can wait the perfect seats for my SIL with a bit of imodium-induced constipation. For YVR I need piles.

Nothing on JAL.

How will LAX/SFO work? Will it require more miles?

Any luck for your friend's ticket?

I actually see more spaces for YVR-HKG, then HKG-YVR.

Thanks everyone! I have waitlisted for 3 flights in Econ+ and Business.

Which class would I have a better chance?
Will economy help because there is more seats?
Or economy + because no one really pay the 100% price difference for it?
Or business class because this isn't really a business/corporate route?

If you have to wait (i.e. Econ already all taken), then go for F.

You can waitlist the other classes but it's never been fruitful for me. F and only F.

Unfortunately I don't have THAT much miles to splurge for F.
And it looks like on here that F only get released T-3?

How many miles (compared to the 60/72/90/180) would a YVR-LAX/SFO-HKG-YVR flight require?
