Pay extra for upper cabin meals

http://hkm.appledaily.com/detail.php...tegory=instant

LOL, my wife's FA friend is calling her whining about the extra work she will have to do in the future with this new policy. She kept going on and on about how much more burdensome this will be when Y pax started to order J meals (and rumor has it even F meal is available for catering if Y pax is willing to pay the right price.)

Personally, as a pax, I welcome this as I find Y and PEY meals distasteful. But how much? I would love a real steak from F class around $50-$75 USD extra.

Interesting, I'd be willing to pay 50-70 extra if I even got a J meal. The Y meals on CX are pretty good, but I really think their J meals are a step up (obviously).

A friend of mine likes to fly Spring Airlines to Hong Kong because for CN¥40 or something like that you can get an incredible meal.

I wouldn't mind paying up to HK$100.

You could go to a top steak restaurant for that! For me airline food is just that, no point trying to dress it up as haute cuisine or anything.

Anyway, April fool

I still wouldn't mind paying up in economy for a better meal.

Sound like ANA My Choice

But I don't think I will upgrade the meal if cost over USD20, CX meals uplift from HKG is so-so

I wonder if I can trade my F meal for someone's J meal and get some money back.

Some airlines have been offering similar meal upgrade options in Y/PY.

AF offers 4 options, charging EUR12-28
MH offers 6 options, charging USD20
US offers 3-4 options, charging USD20.99

A key question. My F meal of choice is the caviar, trimmings and a bottle of Krug. I'd be very happy to pay, say, HK$200 for that on a Y trip to Singapore!

If you buy a J meal, do you get J wines to go with it?

if the proposal was to be carried out, i would forecast that (i) the quality of Y class meals would go downhill further to 'motivate' more passengers paying for the meal upgrades, and (ii) cx would stock less Y meals for flights.
