Canmore at American Thanksgiving?

It looks like Canmore is mostly for family resorts – we're thinking of going up there for Thanksgiving weekend but we're just two middle-aged adults will hotels be overrun by families and small children?

Don't hate kids, but I was surprised that every hotel and resort there advertised as family and pet friendly.

It's past summer tourist season (November is winter in Canmore but not yet ski season) and not a holiday in Canada, I don't think you will have any issues with crowding. Kids will be in school that time of year.

Yes, it's a holiday for Americans however I don't think Canmore is a big destination in November. March break can get busy with ski season but November is a pleasant time to head to the mountains.

Also, even though resorts/hotels say they're family/pet friendly doesn't mean you'll be running into lots of people. Most of these resorts are just condo-style hotels.

Canmore will be pretty dead in Nov.

Things really get quieter after Canadian Thanksgiving (early/mid October) and only start to get busier again around Christmas.

That being said, why would you choose Canmore over Banff or Lake Louise?

The weather is always a toss up in Canmore in November- You could have snow and cold, brown dead grass or a sudden warm blast. If you are a skier all the resorts should be open.

Canmore is a good jumping off point for Banff and Lake Louise.

For chain hotels, you have Holiday Inn, Quality Inn and Best Western.

I've stayed at all 3 and I found the Best Western to be the nicest with the Holiday Inn coming in a close second. Both hotels had families staying at them but were quiet and run by professional staff

Banff has a Delta (Marriott brand) and a Fairmont.

If you are looking for a more secluded option the Delta Kananaskis is in a beautiful location and 5 minutes away from Nakiska ski resort which is the closest resort from Calgary and was the host of skiing events at the Calgary Olympics. It's about an hour away from Banff.

Lodging is cheaper in Canmore due to it not being in the National Park. With the 150 pass it is a good time to visit this year saving the park entrance fees.

You will be fine. You won't be overrun with kids. It is actually quite a nice, peaceful time of year to visit.
