I am in PER now. The way I did it is bought a revenue tix. to SIN and then burned points (60,000) for stops in Perth, Adelaide, Auckland, and Dunedin. The revenue tix also permitted stops in NRT and HKG.
The long haul flights were on SQ and NZ. NZ just announced expanded service PER-AKL to connect with its SFO & YVR flights - so AP availability may not be a problem!
If I had to do it again, I would look at transiting KIX. AC has been advertising $865 from YOW. I hate Rouge, but its worth considering.
