Is there a widespread protest movement against the Queen...defacing her on coins?

Quite often, I see Canadian coins with some scratches over the Queen. Sometimes, the scratches are a big X. Recently, I got a penny and it is completely gouged but only on the Queen's side.

Is this a method of protest?

I'm not sure, but I think it's pretty rare. I've not run into it in Saskatchewan and I'm in Ontario a lot and haven't noticed it there either.

Lived in Vancouver all my life, and I've never seen this once.

"Spocking" Laurier on the five is, however, common:

Checking in

Good thing this came up. I went through all my change. HRH is fine on some coins but on some 25 cent coins and some 5 cent coins she seems to have been replaced by profiles of men with braided ponytails. Hmmm.

You must be in a very anti-monarchist location! I’ve never seen any and since this post first appeared, I’ve randomly checked coins in my pocket and still nothing.

I've never heard of it.

Actually, the Monarchy is enjoying a small revival here in Canada.

"Spocking" the Canadian $5 note surges with Leonard Nimoy's death.
