Santa Cruz is a mess due to recent flooding
UPDATE
just saw you were coming in August – check the reports anyway but it will be less of an issue. 😏
Santa Cruz is a mess due to recent flooding - definitely check news reports before you set off on a trip there

Monterey is pleasant. You can go whale watching, and there are plenty of sea lions and some sea otters in the harbour. Much better for sea otters 30 minutes north at Moss Landing where we got very close up to a mother and cub feeding round the boat pontoons.
