laguna beach recommendations

Coming to laguna beach end of May for a wedding with husband and 5-yr old daughter. Looking for recommendations for hotel, prefer near or on the beach, would love something nicer but not with Montage pricing. Open to staying within 15-20 minute drive if necessary.

Some of my coworkers stayed here and were very pleased: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...alifornia.html

If you are looking for something a bit nicer you can check out the stunning Resort at Pelican Hill. I have stayed there on a stay-cation and it was beautiful. Prices are a bit lower than the Montage but the property is very impressive:

Additionally, there are some adorable cottages in Crystal Cove right on the water. I have been wanting to book a staycation there for quite some time. If you get the timing right you MIGHT be able to snag a cancellation. These typically book up as soon as they are released:

If none of those look good let us know - there are several other places within a 10-15 minute drive. These were just the first ones which popped into my head.

"Not with Montage pricing" is not very informative since it's one of the most expensive properties in the OC... What kind of rate would you hope for?

If a less expensive but still high-end property is in order, try Ritz or St Regis in Monarch Beach (Dana Point), both of which often have good specials. Laguna Cliffs Marriott, which is also in Dana Point, has lovely grounds situated high on a bluff overlooking the harbor, coastline and ocean. Dana Point is approx. 10-15 minutes south of Laguna Beach.

Otherwise, there are a number of less expensive, family-friendly places in both Laguna and Dana that are reliable. Expedia or trip advisor will actually give you a decent sense of options.

There are many delightful hotels on or near the beach in Laguna without Montage pricing.

Again it depends on your requirements and budget. More specificity would nelp.

without knowing your price range, I'd rank in this order:

1. Montage
2. Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel
3. St. Regis Monarch Beach
4. Laguna Cliffs Marriott

much cheaper are:

Pacific Edge Hotel - LB
Hotel Laguna - old historic hotel in the middle of downtown
DoubleTree - Dana Point
new Residence Inn, San Juan Capistrano
Surf & Sand - Laguna

there's also a lot of private homes and condos for rent locally at VRBO or similar sites. You can get a home for the price of a nice hotel.
