Non-Rev to HNL...cheap hotels?

I am looking to non-rev to HNL this May on US Air and/or AA. Anyone have experience this time of the year? I had good luck to OGG last July. Also, where are good inexpensive places to stay? Thanks for any help

I had good luck with www.airbnb.com a couple months ago. Nothing fancy, but worked well for me. Do read those reviews though.

I spent two nights in Hawaii during a long layover on the way to Asia. I had a great time driving all around the island but the hotel prices were crazy. Instead I rented a car ($16 a day) and slept in it, one night at the beach and one night in the trunk while parked in a mall. It was uncomfortable at 6'4" but totally worth it.
