Leaving T5 airside after passing security for domestic flight
I'm flying to EDI this weekend and there is an outside chance that I find out very last minute that I need to stay in London. I understand that in this case I should ask to be offloaded from the flight and that there is an hourly escort to landside, or I can board the shuttle to T5C and stay on to return as an arriving passenger.
There are no recent threads on the landside escort, is this still possible? If so, who do you speak to for offloading and where do you go for the landside escort? Failing that, will there be any issues in doing the shuttle given that its a domestic flight? I don't quite understand the passenger flows but I assume the shuttle will spit me out at the UK border rather than domestic arrivals?

I would strongly advise you to have your passport or ID card with you. It's not strictly speaking essential, but it may well save a lot of time and trouble.
For the escorted service, just go to the Customer Service desk about 15 minutes to the hour, and not much later in case there is some queuing at the gate. Mention this is domestic but you have your passport with you. The international pathway is close by, so if you are able to use the e-gates then this is probably the fastest way out. If they take you out via domestic (which I believe needs clearance) then it may take longer and is further away.
For the transit route, you must have a passport, but I would nevertheless make sure you've told BA that you won't be travelling, it will make it easier for things like standby passengers.
