Curve card is a "debit" card or "spend" card that you can use at stores and where you can use debit card for purchases. It is not funded by the bank with cash deposit, but funded by a collection of other debit cards and credit cards. You can't withdraw cash from ATM since it is not backed by the bank.

It carries MasterCard logo and can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted.

Curve Card is offered in the United Kingdom and selected European countries. Not currently available in the US.

curve card changes.

Curve works with VISA and MasterCard. Unfortunately American Express has decided to stop Curve users being able to pay with their American Express cards via Curve. We're working on it, and hope we can change their minds soon.

Being able to earn points on the BA Amex credit card even at places that don't accept Amex. And also earning points on cash withdrawals. Not really sure how they can make money.

The link to BA is that Curve had the potential to be a big Avios earner when backed off to a BA Amex.

If it is indeed the case that this is no longer possible then we will cancel immediately and get our money back - Curve is practically useless for Avios earning without the BA Amex

It is not specific to BA/BAEC and the card can be linked to any Amex to earn MRs, SPG points, etc, or linked with any other credit card for any other FF program.

It would be best posted in one of the below:

I had also noticed that on the website - but now the specs page has reverted back to showing as Amex accepted.

Does anyone have any actual confirmation that Curve does not work when linked to an Amex card?

I wonder if this issue is why Curve has been so slow to produce and dispatch the cards (irrespective of the emails claiming 'popularity' as the reason).

I received my card a couple of weeks ago and had no problem charging to Amex. Last purchased on Sunday and it went through fine. Might nip out in a bit a try.

Curve have now DM'd me on Twitter with the following statement:

"Curve does work with Amex. So you know, we have been running a pilot since January 1st and users have been spending with Amex via their Curve since then."

So it looks like it may have been a false alarm ?

I have just used my curve card to withdraw cash linked to amex. No problems. 300 avios for a short trip to the cash machine!

All a false alarm.

OK, this is where I was told things are.

Amex is working perfectly well with Curve as of now. Nothing changes. Feel free to put your card into ATM to test it!

The message that appeared online briefly was a mistake.

Should the Amex deal fall away, there is a strategy in place which will ensure that no-one who has ordered a card is out of pocket. You would be offered a refund or a favourable deal to keep your card (you would still get the ability to recharge ATM transactions to a Visa or MasterCard credit card as well as make transactions overseas with a 1% vs the standard 3% fee).

There is certainly nothing to worry about if you have a card on order.

Thanks Raffles for the reassurance. I was just about to order a card myself and the worry about Amex gave me pause for thought.

Slightly OT but do you have any suggestions on whether the £75 card is worth the extra over the £35 one?
