Why is NYC so expensive in Y in July 16?

Need to book some flights for a colleague for NYC in July. Lowest fare is over £900 per passenger in Y!!! Every other month has fares of sub £500 available.

Anybody know why?

Thank you

Not that cheap atm since no sale on and the advanced purchase fares are €1,535 from DUB and £1,226 from CPH.

In economy, DUB-JFK-CDG is £546 in July when flying on American Airlines.
DUB-JFK-DUB is £556 when flying on BA. You can also do this routing on AA for the same price and slightly more with Delta.

Cheapest transatlantic fares at the moment but you have to make you own way to/from DUB and CDG. Any Avios for a short hop?

NYC has always been pricey from LON for the months of July and August. Nothing new, despite the multitude of flights!

UK school holidays, US public holidays, people wishing to go there for 4th July, general tourism peak time.

Best have a stiff drink before you move on to booking the hotel.

La Compagnie have offers running if you book this month.

£1500 for two pax, LTN-EWR, in J.

(£850 for one pax)

And yes the naysayers will jump in to claim it can't last, you'll be stranded and flying with them will turn your hair white (I probably made the last one up) but they seem to have lasted longer than any of the last lot who tried this.

Or book Aer Lingus via lastminute.com for £600 plus change.

That unlikely eventuality is what travel insurance including airline failure is for.

Could be related to summer olympics down in Rio, and NYC being a popular connection point?
