Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. the guide to using ITA matrix in post #2 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

It's an unknown. Essentially it's likely to affect - however there might be a (very slim) chance of getting BA to provide ORC in a sense of it was booked as First Class earning, then later became business so thus should credit as F. I've taken screenshots of all my sectors (and the table showing TP's etc. earned). Keeping in mind it will also mean the Avios earn takes a hit, too!

The current guidance for travel agents governs tickets "plated" on 001/AA ticket stock - they will be exchanged and reissued with the "downgraded" booking class, so that would mean that your TP earnings will be reduced, as if you booked into the lower business inventory from the start.

There is no guidance governing tickets issued on other airline stock (since AA doesn't control these tickets), but that does not mean that you are safe. The answer for these cases depends upon the mechanism/basis with which AA credits BA accounts. If it's based on the booking class flown, then you'll get the downgraded TP credit since AA will likely (just a guess) run a script to change their booking codes in their system. But if the mileage crediting over to BA is based on ticketed booking class, you might be ok if ticketed on other-than-AA ticket stock.

As others have noted, it isn't really known atm. I think it is something folks need to be aware of as it may well be TP earnings are lower after the changes all work through.

The ticket will have to be revalidated at least because it requires the passenger to travel in F class, which no longer exists on the aircraft in question.

Hellooo!

What's the fastest way to Silver from scratch? I currently have 30 TP, if there are any middle eastern or Far East routes I'll be very interested.

Also is a budget of £2k reasonable for hitting silver?

Priceline bookings

I'm considering a run DUB-PHL-LAX-SFO return at the end of November - it's coming up at about £1,600 which isn't a steal but the PHL-LAX legs are pricing up in First so I think that makes it 820TP (I know it could be more if I routed via LHR but I'm prepared to forego those TPs for a slightly easier life).

However, it's the classic problem that although plenty of possible fares come up on the matrix, getting them to price up somewhere to purchase is difficult. I did get one of them to work on Priceline through Bookwithmatrix, but when it asks for Frequent Flyer number, it only has the option of AA membership number. If I book through Priceline, will I be able to add my Executive Club number to the booking later, on the AA website or elsewhere? Similar question for seating choices, too - can I find the booking on the AA website later (I'm Oneworld Sapphire so should be able to choose seats for free, I think)?
Thanks!

560TP for VCE-DOH-BKK-DOH-VCE with QR, rest of the TP picked up via positioning flights. Roughly £1186

Even with two BA positioning flight you would require a further two unless flying down on BA from the Regions

Just needs at least two BA (operated or coded) or IB flights to get to those 30 then.

Seats yes, but you will probably have to call AA to get your EC number into the booking. I can never make the website do this for me. And be sure to do the EC number part first, because without that in place, AA's website will not know that you're OW Sapphire, and will make you pay for better seats. (Actually I'm not sure what the benefit is for Sapphire as far as seating. I am OWE and thus get to choose premium seats in economy for free, but I don't know if Sapphire has the same deal.)

Hello All

I'm looking to do a points run to get 170 TP to hit gold (for the first time), and need to do this sometime during the first two weeks of December. Would like to make a short trip of it (and I'll be paying for two tickets to bring my partner along) and see a Christmas market or something else worthwhile.

I'm based in the midlands so can get to LON or MAN, but just as happy to jump on a cheapo flight out of BHX/EMA and start somewhere like DUB/AMS. Happy with economy legs if it keeps cost down and still hits the 170TP.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Charlie

Thanks, Charlie
Getting 170TP on Economy flights is a total non starter, unless you REALLY like Christmas markets. So that means you need to go in Business. As far as I know, almost all the markets are in the 80TP return bracket, so that means you do need to either go twice, or travel somewhere else too. And my strong preference would be a second trip as exEU to go shorthaul EU seems silly. Two trips for two people is looking at £800ish minimum though.

Have a look at JER-LGW-AMS return in business (160TP) combined with cheap economy to and from JER (minimum 10TP). Both have Xmas markets
