Never boil coffee! Coffee should be brewed/extracted at about 92-94c.
But Americans will try and get it to be served right on 100 because of this notion that it won't be hot by the time it gets back to their desk. Whilst not realising their coffee increase bitterness leaving a nasty taste in your mouth. That's not coffee!!!

We know how inconsistent BA can be, but one area where it is completely consistent is in how bad the coffee is. They've somehow managed to make it even worse than the typical muddy foul-tasting percolated horror that seems to be the norm in US offices. This is no mean achievement.
Fortunately the tea - the only hot drink that I go anywhere near on a BA flight - is much better.

Maybe i have been lucky but i have always found the coffee to be smooth and reasonably drinkable.
I much prefer the on-board brew compared to the "burnt bark" that is available in the lounges.

The coffee is awful.
You can see the bottom of the cup if you let it sit. It's like dirty dishwater.
Considering BA are happy to stock decent brands of alcoholic drinks, why would they not extend this to coffee?
Wouldn't some of the coffee producers be glad of the publicity/advertising?
having just been on a Club Europe flight, for me the experience is not worth paying the extra buck.
However small improvements such as a good cup of coffee could persuade me.

Sounds like British coffee from the 1970s, this whole thread. I thought airline coffee was universally instant. In any event, I no longer drink coffee on any flight now. Tea is a much better bet, it's much harder to screw up a cup of tea. Especially for a British airline.
I seem to recall getting passable cups of coffee on the LCCs (namely easyJet and Ryanair). But they offer pretty good tea too.

It's not just BA (although BA's coffee is outstandingly bad). I've never had a good cup of coffee on any airline, regardless of class. I don't class Nespresso as good coffee, it's just relatively less bad.
Like others on this thread, I now order tea rather than face being stuck with a cup of dire brown water with no convenient plant pot to pour it in.
Actually, I lie. Remember Go? (formerly Debonair that BA took over as a LCC and then sold to Easyjet...I think). Go had cafetieres of coffee (using Costa coffee) so their coffee was pretty decent, and tasted like, well, coffee!
