OT (?)- Walking from Hatton Cross to T1,2,3 to T5

Yep, you read that right!

My work colleague is a bit shattered after walking from Boston Manor to Hatton Cross yesterday. Him & his girlfriend have spent the last few weekends walking the entire Piccadilly Line from Cockfosters.

However, research and a BAA contact have advised him it's impossible to walk from Hatton Cross to T1,2,3 then onwards to T5 (T4 to Hatton Cross is feasible). Even with the Tunnel Road is this the case? I'm sure BA FT'ers have the definitive answer

Be a bit of an anti-climax if he has to miss out the last few stops - is this the case that there is no walking option?

(If the question is why, It's a nice way to see London , lots of pubs en-route, and apparently there is a useful app that points interesting things out along the way!)

The most logical route which covers the maximum on foot, although not in Piccadilly Line order, would be to walk from Hatton Cross to T5, then from T5 to the top of the tunnel. It would then be necessary to take a TfL bus through the tunnel, before completing the walk to the T1/2/3 platforms from the Central Bus Station.

I would guess you can fiddle T4 in there somehow.

There is no foot access to the Tunnels now, as you've been told.

I think the tunnel is closed at the moment for pedestrians/cyclists (?) so it would be hard to get there.
You can get to T4 (I used to live in Bedfont and walk there as well) but you had to cross some bits with footpaths or sidewalks.

I think the same maybe true of T5. Sometimes I see slightly confused looking people walking around with their luggage near T5. You can get there, but you might have to ignore a few signs. One way I can think of to get to T5 is to follow the Bath Road, hang left just after the London Hong Kong restaurant towards the Thistle Hotel, and at the end on the round about take the little lane that the buses (and cyclists) take. Cross the bridge and the Perimeter Road, and head past the taxi stand into T5.

OT (?)- Walking from Hatton Cross to T1,2,3 to T5

Funnily enough I stayed at the Hatton Cross HGI last night and someone asked me a similar question. It's possible to walk from there to T4 relatively easily, following the roads by The Duke of Northumberland Canal, not quite a bucolic experience, but it could be worse. From T4 to T5 is also walkable, and I have done that myself. T2/3 is undergoing tunnel work and even cyclists are temporarily banned from cycling to these terminals. So at least for the time being some alternative is needed to get to T2/3

My understanding is that there is no pedestrian access via the Tunnel Road from Bath Road to the central terminal area... That said, I've read in the past that the "side" tunnels (not the centre ones) do have a pedestrian pavement and it is physically possible to walk through them... that said, Heathrow's website is clear that cycling through the tunnel is not permitted, it's completely silent on the question of pedestrian access, and there are at least some anecdotal reports online that people have been turned away trying to walk the tunnel. ETA: Looks like others have confirmed it–perhaps best not to try this at the moment!

I think the safe bet would be to walk from Hatton Cross to Heathrow Terminal 4, which is definitely doable, and then to complete the walk by heading around to Terminal 5. Alternatively, you could walk up the Bath Road to the point closest to the tunnel and catch a local bus (free) to get the rest of the way to the central terminal area.

Maybe they could take a series of buses, get in at the back and then walk forwards through the bus during the tunnel stage? There are meter signs along the tunnel walls so they could keep track of the chunk of the tunnel walked.

It is not possible to access the CTA by foot. This is from a friend who used to be with the MPS at Heathrow.

T4 is possible, and unsure about T5.

No

A chap called Mark Mason wrote a book about walking every line of the tube network called Walk the Lines. Excellent, by the way. The tunnel to T2 and T3 was the only part of the entire network he could not walk.

So, sadly no is the answer.

Him has spent his time off walking underground routes? Why is him doing this? And what does her think of it? Was it him's idea? Or she's?

PS: Was him in Bristol last week?

Thanks - I was amazed there was no 'secret' entrance as Heathrow seems full of them, seems that T1,2,3 is unreachable on foot.

I guess when you have spent hours (days?) on the Piccadilly Line from North London to Heathrow, seeing the route from above ground gives you another perspective - I guess this would be the least attractive segment though!

To be honest, i'm not sure if it was hims or hers idea, i'll check. It does seem a nice way to see London though

Does put me in mind of this though, you're easiest way to get responses

This summer I stayer at the Sheraton Skyline at LHR and explored the neighborhood a bit. It looked to me like one could at least walk to T5 by going left out of the hotel and taking the short perpendicular street toward the airport runway fence at the first light, then going left again at the T. I was watching takeoffs and landings and there seemed to be a sidewalk as far as I could see. T4 looked similarly possible but I'm less sure of that.

As has been said, it's not possible to walk into Heathrow, hence why the buses are subsidised by HAL from Harlington Corner / Bath Road.

I think the busses are subsidized to keep the cars off the roads around Heathrow, rather than the pedestrians. All local busses between Hatton Cross, Central Area, T4 and T5 are free within the Heathrow area.
