Rugby World Cup comes to LHR T5

Twenty one days before the start of the Rugby World Cup, hosted by England and Wales, a pop up shop for the event has opened for business airside at T5, just in time for the end of summer rush. It's right next to South Security where the old Boots was (a new Boots is opening next to Plane Food shortly).

Some of the games may be visible for BA passengers arriving into LHR, Twickenham Stadium is clearly visible some landings on the left (port) side of the aircraft.

I walked past it this morning and completely missed it. Managed to nearly miss cws waving at me in the CCR as well so I am perhaps not the most observant person at this early hour

Sounds like I have missed my opportunity of seeing the 'elite black CWS mug' in the CCR then!

And I missed everything! Both the Rugby Shop and fellow FTers in the CCR, although I was in the CCR rather early (for me) taking the first BA flight on Thursday to MUC.

I was in at 0545 even though my flight is at 1045! I have work to do for a bit then I had some preplanned FT'er socialising a bit later on. Sorry I missed msm2000uk and DoctorCopper though.

Will be picking up a jersey on Monday morning to take back to Germany ready to watch every game with pride in the Irish pub!

Anyone going to any games? I'm going to ENG-WALES and also QF for winner of group 1 (hopefully England!)

Did you have to post that??

Now hubby wants to make that his first point of call instead of the CCR!!

Will have to explain to him how important it is to go through that white door!

I'm on my way KARFA , see you in a bit

Only 6 months after the considerably larger RWC shop opened in DUB. It's not like LHR to miss an obvious retail opportunity.

They opened one in Kingston about a year ago before shutting it a month later, as nobody was in there.

I really doubt the shops will do well, as if you weren't a fan of rugby you wouldn't have a clue it was going on, compared to say London 2012 for example.

Although I do note O2 has changed their shops logos to the English Rose.

Off to two of Ireland's group games and have tickets to a couple of knockout games.

Has anyone been to the RWC shop in Covent Garden? Yes it's well stocked but very cramped. Personally I can't wait 6 wks of rugby mania. I'm going to all 4 Ireland group games, ABS vs Argies & SA vs USA. Plus 2 Qtr Finals in Cardiff and both Semis. Sadly no Final tkts yet albeit I'm gutted I refused to pay £715 face value for the only available CAT A tkt a few weeks ago. Not a scent of anything since.

Enjoy and ofcourse Come on you Irish☺

It's going to have an appeal beyond the normal rugby fan base simply because it's a World Cup. The Six Nations already draw in a much bigger audience than club rugby for example and the World Cup is at another level above that. I know people who profess to *hate* rugby who will nevertheless watch the England RWC matches.

Of course, over here in Ireland, it's probably going to be bigger than last year's FIFA World Cup.

That overlap with my tickets is slightly scary
4 Ireland pool games - check
2 Cardiff quarters - check
Both semis - check (snagged SF1 a couple of days ago)
NZ vs. ARG - check
Would trade my ENG v. FIJ and AUS v. WAL tickets for any final ticket though, probably my bronze medal match too, amazed one came back up online TBH

Am hoping I don't get to see Paul O'Connell's last game in an Irish jersey, means we've made final then!

I convinced the (Irish) wife that we needed to take our 14 month old to Ireland to meet her granddad and uncles/aunties for the 1st time and go to a couple of games while we are over that side of the world.

We have tickets to both 1/4 finals in Cardiff,am hoping for a NZ vs Ireland 1/4 final,so will be eagerly watching the outcome of France vs Ireland pool game in the AKL QF lounge just prior to our flight.

Managed to nab a couple of QF 1st class award seats for the way over too
