When I was there a year or so back the check-in was in the main building, and then you went to an attached remote building to board the aircraft. It took a few minutes to do this, but nothing excessive.

I think check in is still in Terminal 3, it's just the ticket desk over in Terminal 2.
Bear in mind that due to the fire back in May, there are still no lounge facilities for BA eligible passengers in Rome, although if you have a priority pass you can use Le Anfore.
