Choosing 1A/1K OF paid CW

I just used avios for my wife and I CPT-LHR in October. I can select 1A as a gold but when I try to select 1K (still open) it does not allow it. She is blue - is this the reason?

Very likely. In First on the B744 row 1 is reserved for Golds/Emeralds and IIRC that remains the same for OF/NF sold as CW.

I see, even though I am in the booking I cannot get that seat for her? Worth calling them to see if they would put her in 1k?

No, it's strictly a Gold only seat until they open up the cabin to all status holders.

Even if you were GGL and your wife Silver and 1TP away from Gold it would make no difference. 1A/K are strictly Gold seats. Somewhere between T-80ish and Check-in the seats become available for all if they haven't already been allocated.

Good luck explaining to whom you gave a gold card in that instance

I knew someone would say something like that! It rather misses the point of my post though

I've not 'gifted' my wife a Gold Card for a couple of years, she earns Gold (as do my kids) in their own right. Even my dear old dad has earned his own Gold this year!

I have no idea who I will gift my Gold and Silvers to, if anyone.

It appears the OP and his wife are already on one booking so a TCP is unnecessary. Even if there were 2 separate bookings and they were TCPd the TCPd party would not be able to take 1A/1K.
