Which is exactly why I will sort this booking this afternoon!
I only have 4 nights, but need 2 rooms per night. 40k x 4 = 160k avios for rooms I need to book anyway. Yes my net outlay will be £1000, but to have 160000 avios is a huge carrot.

So does this mean avios Mattress Runs (for those that need the points)? Could this be cheaper than purchasing points direct from BA?
What's the cheapest $/avios people have been able to find?

Yes, I did get a little ahead of myself!
But 30 and 35k for a 7 day period is possible. Rooms from just £104 per night in Phuket. So 7 days in a hotel for £728 for 2 people, plus 30000 avios (+3000 bonus). Not that buying Avios from BA is good value, but as a comparison, 27000 avios costs £447 direct from BA.
But be careful what you pay and always do a thorough search of costs before booking just for the miles. I dont expect they are too competitive...
Prime example. Rocketmiles = £104 per night. Otel.com = £54.81 per night...

RocketMiles also means no TopCashback and no hotel status.
By way of comparison, in Europe, I would get (for £100 of Hilton spend):
1. (Up to) 5% cashback in ClubCard points = 500 CC points or 1,200 avios
2. 1.5 Iberia avios per $ of spend @ $1.60 = 200 avios
3. 1,666 Hilton points + any bonus (probably an additional 2,000 for leisure travel)
I would value avios at 1p each (or £14) and Hilton points at 2/3 of a US cent (or £15.35) on the above.
So if getting less than 30 avios per pound then it's a poor deal even if it's cash neutral and placing no value on status accumulation or on-property benefits.
Edit: compare with RocketMiles - Hilton Hyde Park for £260/night @ 5k x 7 = 35k.
1. 9100 CC points = 21,840 avios = £218.40.
2. 3640 Iberia avios = £36.40
3. $346/night = 61,415 Hilton points = $411 or £257.00 worth based on a gold and the current promotion.
That gives a total points value of £511 vs £350 for the avios alone and in effect you're trading 60k Hilton points for 10k avios if you go down the RocketMiles route.

This I had no idea about!!! Hmm shame I have no Hilton status.
But this is still only valid for just this 1 chain of hotels, so is rather distorted.

Fair point but you can still get up to 10% cashback from other hotels (although I admit to being a Hilton fanboy, or at least travel just enough to get status somewhere and Hilton has the depth of coverage I need), and cash that out directly as avios.

Even for non-chain hotels, using hotels.com you can get 10% cashback plus 10% towards a welcome rewards night, meaning you'd still need to beat 20 avios per £ with rocket miles to get out ahead.
