BA to resume flights to ICN

Since terminating the non-stop flights to ICN back in 1998 due to the financial crisis, BA is coming back to ICN after a 14-year break.

The flights will be operated 6 times per week on a 777-200ER as follows:

x3 LHR-ICN BA17 Dep 1300 Arr 0855+1 772 (First flight 2DEC)
x4 ICN-LHR BA18 Dep 1045 Arr 1400 772 (First flight 3DEC)

Good to finally have BA back in ICN! I hope they do well. It should be noted, however, that ICN is typically very premium-light so this route should be fairly easy to get redemption seats in F and J.

And for that reason alone, it is welcome. An easy redemption route to Asia is what we need.

And idea when BA is restarting North Korea?!

^ A big thumbs up from me, could give me a new interesting route to the Far East/Australia.

I think that they struggled before because the majority Korean passngers preferred the familiar hospitality (language skills) of Korean and Asiana. But there are more international workers in South Korea now and greater international business traffic, hopefully this will help.

I wonder if they will recruit any international crew for the route which should help encourage Korean passenger traffic. I know KL and others do.

To clarify, is it a 4-class config for sure?

Yes, EF is showing all 4 classes.

Restarting? North Korea?

I do not recall BA flying to FNJ, ever... Maybe RAF during the Korea War

Excellent news. The first dividend from the BD purchase has been paid to passengers.

That would have been a perfect fit with BMI's route structure!

Were you doing a Sarah Palin or is there a smiley missing from your post?

Quite. BMI's focus had long since shifted away from a sensible route structure to specialising in countries in dire need of a regime change, so FNJ would have been a perfect fit

This has been predicted for some time, but good to see it come true.

The South Korean economy has grown significantly in the last 14 years, I think there will be more business demand on this route now. I work for a Korean owned company and I know many people will be glad they can now take BA instead of Korean Air.

I suppose BA will use the CX lounge at ICN. I have a couple of pictures I will have to dig out so we can update the lounge directory

5,520 miles is unfortunately just over the apparent 50k/60k redemption threshold. I doubt it will get special treatment like CPT.

BA had some flights to ICN in March last year. After the Japanese earthquake last year, BA flights to Tokyo went via ICN.
