Terrible F experience... [Mixed Fleet route]

Took the BA275 to LAS a couple of days ago, and it has to go down as the worst flight I've experienced, in any class, on any airline

It started badly, with no CSD as the door, we were just told to go down to F and find our own seats. No biggie, but I though that escorting F passengers was standard?

So, sat down and waited. Eventually the F purser came over, and looked surprised to see us in 1A and 1K. She asked how we managed to get there without being escorted? Managed to get a glass of champers.

After take off, the real fun began. The purser asked what time we'd like to eat, and we said about 9pm. No problem there, but she seemed to take that as 'no service until 9pm'.

After an hour of waiting for our drinks order to be taken, she came to take the food order. I asked if would be possible to get a drink first, and asked for a glass of the Pinot Noir. She didn't know what that was, so I had to point it out in the drinks menu. She informed that they didn't have any. So, she took my girlfriends order, and said she'd come back for me when I'd decided.

Another 15 minutes passed, and no drink materialised for my girlfriend. So, I went to the galley and asked. My drink appeared, but still nothing for the GF. 15 minutes later, a glass of champagne appeared for her (she'd ordered wine). So, after 90 minutes, she eventually got the wrong drink.

This set the scene for the whole journey. We were not offered a drink or a top up for the whole 9:40 flight!

At one point, I tried the trick of pressing the call button. After 10 minutes, it hadn't been answered, so I went to the galley. I eventually realised that this was the only way that either of us would get any service.

Oh, and did I mention that the red wine was served in a champagne glass?

When they took the food order, I asked for the pasta. I was told that only one had been loaded, and somebody had already ordered it. Great... Again, I believe that this is not the way things should happen. They're supposed to take all the orders, and then choose who gets what based on status. So, I eventually went for the salmon and beam, which was nice, but not hot enough. I asked for a drinks top up during the meal service, but that was forgotten

The GF went for the steak, which was overcooked and pretty rubbish.

During the meal service, no water was offered, despite a water glass being placed on the table.

The only thing mitigated any of this slightly was a quite disruptive passenger who was also in F class. The purser apologised for his behaviour before landing (he'd managed to keep most people awake, and one of the other passengers had asked for the police to meet the plane). We were told that a report would be sent to customer services. Hopefully, he and his family won't be traveling back on BA anytime soon.

So, a thoroughly miserable flight. Things looked up when we got upgraded to a huge suite at the Cosmopolitan at Las Vegas

By the way, the crew were MF, and very young!

Does calling someone a MF mean the same thing in the UK as it does in the US?

Hi Rick,

May I ask if you got hot towels? I am wondering as I didn't have any on my both flights for the Dubai DO.

On my way to DXB I was on 1A and I was the last to be served (I wanted to have my launch asap).

Seems like you got a bit of a duff one there DYKWIA. Write in and inform them of your dissatisfaction with the service.

What was the PITA passenger up to?

After taking the Chase BA bait and moving pretty much all our CC activity from United these kinda reports really worry me that the miles might just be wasted that could have been redeemed on LH or others for our usual SFO-VIE flights.

Surely you also get the odd crap crew and experience with United ?

DYNWIA - please write in and tell BA and then report back, perhaps start with YF ??

Sounds like a really terrible experience. I'd be on the phone/email/letter to BA. Did you get any of the names of the crew? I'd have wanted to complain to the CSD to be honest. It all sounds very amateur.

My UA/LH/OS onboard crews in all classes domestic/international have all met standard and many have been above and beyond. The only real problems I've ever had with them were with those on the ground (OS @LHR being the worst). Now US on the other hand I've had awful transatlantic flight crews.

Hi DYKWIA

I hope the Cosmopolitan makes up for the bad BA service - it appears to be a great hotel and Holsteins is great!

I have hoped for an upgrade on my flight home next week - maybe not such a good idea!

Enjoy Vegas - Thunderstorms for a couple for nights unfortunately!

Regards

This rather sounds like the MF flight in C to DEN I had the other day. Amateurish and slow, very much in tune with the previous archived thread on here.

I'm sorry you had such a poor flight...

I flew F last week (LHR to LAX) and same thing - no escort from the door. I did board very early so maybe the crew weren't in the place yet...?

I flew UA F on the way to LHR on the same trip, and I can say that as mediocre as (old) BA First may be, it was a lot better than UA in almost every respect (except IFE).

UA crews are quite mixed - some downright rude and pushy (literally - I was pushed by an FA) - but a crew I had in J on SFO-HKG was just as good as the one I had on CX in J from SFO-HKG.

This was my first trip flying F internationally on any airline, and both experiences tell me that the major price differential from J to F does not justify the slight service differential. Maybe it's worth it on an Asian airline, but not to Europe.

Given that you can document specific service issues, compose a short message to BA and use bullet points to highlight the service deficiencies. At worst you'll probably receive a call apologizing and perhaps some miles. Its a shame that this happens, but it needs to be addressed. This type of failing should be embarrassing to the airline. In F, it is an inexcusable occurrence.

Fortunately, I've been blessed with fantastic crews almost all year.
