Jersey Passport Issues

I'm travelling on Friday to Jersey and have managed to establish from this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...-passport.html) that a passport is not required when flying from LGW.

Does anyone know however whether it is possible to check in online with BA without a passport as I plan on using my Driver's License to travel.

Thanks

It's best to buy a ticket

As to the passport, not needed for a domestic flight (JER is domestic even though it's not part of the UK).

No problem checking in online. It's only if you're dropping bags that you need to show ID, and a drivers licence is fine.

JER is actually a European sector.
I fly ET/CE to LGW, not Domestic.

The problem is that BA can't decide where JER actually is.

It's not in the UK.
It's not in the EU.
We fly ET/CE, but can't "Euro-Cheat".

Well, sort of ....

Even though we know it isn't, according to BA, JER definitely is in the UK, even though BA flights to and from JER have ET/CE cabins

Book a flight - select country "United Kingdom" - select from "Jersey"

Our network - select "View country list" - select "U" - select "United Kingdom" - select "Jersey" ...

Would the credit card used to book the flight be fine (it has been for mainland domestic flights from LGW so far)? I assume Jersey is the same.

I have no card sized photo ID as I have an old paper licence.

I think you need some form of photo ID.

Happy to be corrected ... oh, hang on, the OH says we're not usually asked.

Although I needed photo ID at World Duty Free at LGW on my TP run

Yup, just so ... and thus wrong.

At least some websites acknowledge our 'separate existence'.

Others don't ... indeed, Apple is one of those. I have to use a UK postcode with my JER address to make it work at all

Jersey also has its own top level domain (.je) and its own Google homepage

To the OP -- unfortunately, a clear answer may be hard to ascertain amongst the jetsam herewith, alas. But, to try and help you plan your journey, as observed in your earlier linked thread, the Channel Islands are in the Common Travel Area and thus no travel documents are required for travel within this zone. You will have your photo taken at LGW when entering security and verified before entering the Gate 55 area, and nothing special at JER when returning. There is a stand for a customs check in JER but rarely anyone there. Arriving at LGW is at the domestic area.

If photo ID is required to check a bag, it would be demanded by the company (for whatever reason). I have read reports here of bank cards and Executive Cards being deemed acceptable by check-in staff. I've never shown anything, but I've always had my Exec Club number in the booking, and realistically mostly haven't checked anything. Surely you would be able to travel to Jersey using your driving licence -- and more likely than not, won't have to show anything more than your PNR.

Technically I think that it is a British Crown Dependency. It is definitely not part of the UK, but is a seperate possession of the Crown.
