Our carry on normally consists of a backpack and a handbag!

No worries, glad to be of help. My sister took it instead of a rollaboard case along with a handbag and had no problems at Gatwick or onboard.

Have a great trip!

Having just flown to ANU a couple of weeks ago clutching wedding dress....

I checked with BA customer services who told me that they wouldn't have problems hanging dress in its carrier up in Club wardrobe during the flight..... but that she couldn't guarantee that the jobsworths (my word not hers!) on Security might get antsy about letting it through, particularly if I wanted hand baggage (huge handbag) as well.

I have one of those boxes in the post above - which comes with a huge quantity of tissue paper - so I folded the dress up carefully using loads of the tissue and put it in a suitcase at the last possible minute, checked it in and forgot about it. On arrival at the villa it was the first thing out of the case - and I hung it on the back of the bathroom door while taking steamy shower and no ironing was required!

They actually travel pretty well all things considered...

Agreed with all the above-- Mrs Rat had travel stress for hers (LHR-YVR) but they were more than accomodating even though it was a very large dress... people cut you a lot of slack for this sort of thing. Congrats and good luck
