Most airlines (including BMI) allow mileage booking 330 days in advance.
Check http://www.awardgrabber.com/ for a handy simple tool.
It varies for paid for flights - easiest way to check is try to book a hypothetical flight on the airline in question.
Cheers, Graeme

Well actually it can be more than 330 days. E.g. bmi themselves release inventory earlier than that (check with their own redemption tool on flybmi.com) and LH release earlier too (check with a Miles&More account). But the ANA tool will not search beyond 330 days, so finding these seats is more of a challenge!
The ICC agents are sometimes initially reluctant to book beyond 330 days but in my experience can be persuaded if you know the seats are available.
