Paid Upgrade on Pre-paid Tarif?

I hold a pre-paid booking in the US for July. The booking was done in January, when the US$ to Euro exchange rate was still more favorable.
I am now thinking about upgrading to a bigger car. I do not want that the whole rental price is recalculated with the actual exchange rate. Therefore I assume it is not wise to change the booking now, as the whole rental price would be recalculated and therefore the rental would become significantly more expensive.
I am planning to ask for a paid upgrade at the station, when I am picking up the car. My hope is that Avis will then only ask for the difference in price (in US$) between both categories.
Are my assumptions correct? Or do I miss something out?

First thing is to check whether you paid in USD of EUR in January. If you paid in USD like I think if you have booked from Avis.com the system would only debit difference for higher car class from your card. For example if you paid $300 in January and your new booking would be $400 you will be charged $100 from your card when you upgrade. They will not do a refund on $300 and charge you $400.

In any way, you should be able to see how it works before confirming change to booking online.
