Their protection plans?
I usually use Hertz but this time I would like to try Avis because I can get Hyatt reward points from it 
When I tried to book, I see that the LDW (Loss Damage Waiver) included and can't be opt-out, and there is ER (Excess Reduction) and PP (Protection Plan), a bit confused
about all these options. If I just want my car to be protected from damage (e.g. scratches made in parking space)/being stolen, is the LDW enough?

I'm planning to rent in Sydney, Australia. My AMEX is issued in HKG so nothing is covered by the card.

fakeman base insurance is required in Australia. Excess is optional to knock down the amount you are responsible for.
