Train sold out--unless the trip is booked in 2 segments?

I am looking to take the Crescent next Saturday from NYP to CSN- Clemson, SC, and I'll take it only if I can get a sleeping car.

If I try to book NYP-CSN (or NYP to any station south of Charlotte), no sleeping cars are available.

I thought about booking a sleeping car NYP-Charlotte and then buying a coach ticket, but in trying to do so, I see that you can book a sleeping car NYP-Charlotte AND a sleeping car Charlotte-CSN.

So there is sleeping car space for my whole trip--but you have to book the trip in 2 separate legs to get it.

What's up with that?

Two different sleeping cars are available right now. Segment 1 has a space in 1 sleeping car and segment 2 has space in another sleeping car. You will have to move after segment 1 unless someone can work the reservation and move someone. But remember you are dealing with Amtrak.

Thanks. Out of curiosity, how can you find out which car has which space?

I think I might just fly, rather than get up at 2:30 or so in the morning to change cars. (It seems like it would be really hard dealing with Amtrak to get the other people moved around.)

You can call amtrak and the reservations agents can tell you.

A little more specifically, there is no single room available the entire route from NYP to Clemson. The room available from NYP to Charlotte is booked from CLT south.

If you are going to book, do so quickly. There is only 1 roomette left NYP-CLT. From CLT south the sleepers are sold out. There is a date change so CLT-CSN is on Feb 19.

I'd book the coach ticket CLT-CSN and see if the sleeper attendant can work something out onboard. I've ended up in rooms other than booked due to onboard shuffling. FYI, the price is just $20 more if you were able to book all the way Clemson versus vacating the room in Charlotte.

Thanks for the info. I am flying after all. Too much hassle to deal with to get the sleeping car.

As a native SCarolinian, I'm glad to hear that. I couldn't imagine taking the train home...

In a sleeping car, it's a very nice trip- much better than flying (even when upgraded on the plane).
