Maybe to get people to rethink transfers to Continental
Yeah maybe your right. I mean when I go to transfer miles to Continental, I get a pop-up saying United accounts expire after 18 months, no expiration with AMEX MR, blah, blah... And I see advertisements on flyertalk about in 4 days, you can't get into the lounge with AMEX, but can with United card, blah, blah. Definitely not a friendly divorce between the two.

I'm just suprised AMEX has not had a few more transfer bonuses to Airlines right now to prevent people from transferring to Continental...

No kidding - I'd love some Home Depot cards at 70% off.

Exactly the same for me. Had the card ~35 years. No love for long term customers?

Are y'all talking about the "shopAmex" portal? Otherwise, don't see why I would be excluded as I have been a Platinum and gold member for 9 months

If you go to the transfer page for HHonors or SPG and don't see a discount, you're excluded

Mine shows 50% off. The $100 AMEX gift card is 10,000 Points.

I am Platinum since 1971.

I did 120,000 MR to 66,600 SPG

I had the 40% SPG bonus offer.

Thanks OP

Just last week I moved some MR to one pass ( for transfer to Amtrak) and I had 40% offer for Hilton, but nothing for SPG.

40% for Hilton , made me Yawn.

40% for SPG, well I pounced on that. ( For airline transfers - not hotels)

Perhaps I'm missing something... How is 40% off for SPG good for airline transfers? Is my math wrong?:
25k MR to SPG: 25k / 600 = 41.67 * 333 = 13,875 SPG = same in miles

Or maybe you're doing a bigger transfer?:
100k MR to SPG: 100k / 600 = 166.67 * 55,500 SPG = 65.5k miles

Both scenarios you don't seem to do well for miles. Am I missing something?

I believe the transfer ratios are still under the following conditions, so I am not sure what is better about the SPG 40% off unless you need to transfer into a specific airline:
25k MR = 25k Miles (select airlines, no US or CO for best *A redemption)
20k SPG = 25k Miles (better *A options like US)

__
I have the 40% off for HH (Centurion), I did a transfer of 40k MR to 100k HH for 2 nights at the Conrad Tokyo - the Westin Tokyo is 20k SPG, so I figure I am using the same MR for a comparable hotel, so better to save my SPG. If I had done MR to SPG for this, it would have been 72k MR, so I think 40k MR for the Conrad over 72k for the Westin was a good choice... right?

However, the first comment (yawn) makes me wonder if I would have done better trading MR for HH in the Coupon Connection. I thought it was decent. Any thoughts, experience or advice?

.

You are assuming they don't have an extra 4,500 SPG to make it an even 60k SPG to the airlines and in turn 75k airline miles.(Instead of not getting the bonus on the last 15,500 transfered as you have calculated it.)

That being said it's still not great. Although for those that are primarily Amex spenders with a lot of points, and are looking to get LT AA status last minute before the change, it is a much better ratio than the standard offer, and may be worthwhile.

Ah, I get that.

How'd I do on the HH transfer then? That seemed decent to me. What would be my MR to HH ratio for trading in the CC? if it's better, I would gladly have have shared the MR with the FT community instead (I do have more).
