Gold status - Newbie (EQD waiver for Gold EQM earning?)

Can anyone help a newbie.... It there any way to get around the EQD - $3,000 Gold status requirement other than CC waiver?? (2) Flights ORD to PEK will take care of the EQM but only only 35% of the EQD's???

Tks.

AA does not offer a straight credit card spend 'waiver' for status in the same way that DL/UA do (DL currently allows this to top tier Diamond, UA only to second to top tier). You can however earn some EQD via certain AA branded credit cards, certainly enough to achieve Gold level EQD. Outside of earning EQD via flying, that's the only other way to earn EQD.

No, there is no way, other than earning status on a Challenge.

See http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...challenge.html.

You must meet the EQD minimum, as well as EQM or EQS requirements.

The Red and Silver Barclaycard AAdvantage cards earn EQD - $3,000 EQD credit for $25,000 spend, another $3k on the Silver after the second $25k spend, iirc.

This. Basically you can pay to lower the EQD to $1000 for next year.

Kinda in the same boat as OP. Gonna hit 50k miles by the end of the year but ending up with $2000-ish EQD. Had to enroll in the status challenge just to get Gold.

And this is why I'm happy AA added EQD requirements. I've flown only 10,000 EQM this year and spent nearly $4000 in EQD. AA needs to re-evaluate status challenge program to consider EQD.
