Get Status Benefits for Award Travel on AA Booked with BA Avios?
Using BA Avios, yesterday I purchased two one-way Economy tickets (one for my spouse, one for me) LAX-KOA and OGG-LAX. On AA.com, I'm not able to select seats in Main Cabin Extra, as I believe my Platinum status should permit.
After making the reservations on BA.com, I logged in to AA.com and obtained the AA Record Locators, but no luck in opening up access to Main Cabin Extra seating.
Is there a way to get this done?
Thank you.
[UPDATE: See post #5 & 6 for a successful online solution.]

As American Airlines and US Airways are still operating as distinct airlines, this question is being moved to the appropriate pre-merger airline forum.
Please note the sticky at the top of the consolidated thread which is titled Welcome to the New American Airlines Forum! PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING. With all of the changes about, it is important to know where to post, and reading that thread before posting (as the title suggests ) will help get you in the right place.

you booked it under your BA account, which apparently has no status. Call AA.

go to finnair.com with the BA record locator. Use the manage my booking function and pu tin the BA PNR number and your last name.
You'll be able to edit and save the AA frequent flyer number. When you then save and return to AA.com your AA FF number will be on the AA PNR.

Success Making the Change Online at Finnair.com!
Perfect! Thank you, nyc6035!
Here is the step-by-step that worked just now:
The change showed up on AA.com within 5 minutes, and I had access to all the seating options that my AA status permitted.
Here is the step-by-step that worked just now:
- Go to finnair.com, select nation and language. You do not need a Finnair FF account.
- Select Manage Booking, on the lower right of the home page. Enter your last name and the 6-character BA booking reference. Click Continue.
- Click the "Update your details" link.
- Change "British Airways" to "American Airlines" and change "Card nr" to your AAdvantage number, then input your email address, then Confirm
The change showed up on AA.com within 5 minutes, and I had access to all the seating options that my AA status permitted.

This would be great except when I click on "Update your details" in the booking, it takes me to a Finnair "Start Over" page - there's no way to edit the FF number. Any ideas?

I've tried doing this for the past couple of days, but just keep getting a blank "Generic Error" page on finnair's website.

Thanks Middle_Seat for your step by step.
However, I keep saying we need a designated wiki and thread for this "FF benefits on AA award booked with Avios" question, as we get it (and answer it) a lot.
For example, there's the same (and some additional) info below, search term "status benefit award BA avios":
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...nging-ffn.html
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...booked-aa.html

I've tried to change the BA FF number to AA over the weekend, but whenever I clicked Update Your Details, it kept going to a blank page. Is that function down? or just something wrong with my ticket?
I booked the ticket on Sat. Do I have to wait a few days before I can update info on Finnair site? Thanks
