Economy MileSaaver Special Award?
I happened upon something strange today:
I've never seen coach awards directly on AA's website for 10k each way instead of 12.5k.
Book now!

Decent deal, but if anyone has Avios, and your close to the west coast, their awards may be cheaper in term of points each way.

That's exactly what I ended up doing. DFW-LAX is 7500 Avios, so even with the reduced mileage award of 10k, I still came out better using Avios. Those on the East Coast or those that don't live in a hub city may find the 10k awards to work out better for them.

Plus IMHO Avios are worth a whole lot less (and a whole lot easier to earn) than AA miles, so if it was between 12.5K Avios and 10K AA, I may still just redeem the Avios.

If you happen to live closer to Stockton, you might consider Allegiant. I saw fares of $42 to LAS from Stockton.
But seriously, I wish AA flew the route. Or only Reno Air was around

Avios do have significant fuel surcharges on European redemptions, however, availability on BA metal is significantly better than AA metal. (AA and BA share revenue so there is incentive for AA to steer redemptions to BA flights with the fuel surcharges).

I've been trying to find a decent fare on AA from SMF or RNO to Las for the last few weeks. The cost of the ticket is close to $500, I have to stop over in LAX, spend a couple more hours traveling in each direction, fly in a puddle jumper and have few options time wise.
Or spend $ 85 each way, fly direct in a little more than 1 hour in a 737.
Hate to do it, but I am flying WN.

Exactly. Avios are fantastic -- no cancellation/redeposit fee (outside of 24 hour window) and no close-in booking fee, and super easy to get.
