Take a survey and win a cruise - when calling the reservation desk

I just now called the Aadvantage Gold number and, instead of the usual "What is your Aadvantage number?", I got a recording for an offer to win a cruise after taking a "brief" survey.

I could not get out of it. I tried saying "Agent" and pressing zero, but it kept on asking me survey questions. ARGH!!!

I hung up, called again and got the Aadvantage Gold "usual" answer. After telling them my number and confirming the flight I was calling about (normal call), AGAIN, the recording came on offering me the survey and the cruise prize. They said they would call back 10 minutes after finishing my transaction with the survey.

I was able to punch "2" to bail out. I don't go on cruises!

Am I the first with this weird new marketing ploy?

You may not be the first, but I think you're the first to report it here.

Hawking credit cards onboard, cruise flogging when one calls about booking: sleazier and sleazier, Doug!

For that report, call 1.800.555.1212 and respond to the survey to earn a chance for a free cruise. Be sure to call before midnight tomorrow!

Wow!

You've got that right. It was really sleazy. In the first, they asked if I am over 21 years of age. OK. They already have my date of birth. Next, they asked if I am planning a vacation in the next 6 months. That's when I tried, unsuccessfully, to exit out of the survey. I could not get to the reservation desk, which was the purpose of my call.

I was at home, calling on my own land line, but I could imagine the frustration of someone calling on an expensive overseas cell call or through some kind of difficult connection.
