I haven't flown in the new Y configuration and don't plan too.
An interesting observation. EK gets plenty of awful reviews on its 3-4-3 layout even with a generous 34" pitch. AA not only added an extra seat to each row but also reduced pitch to 31".

This is old, but have to chime in after an awful experience today. I am 6'2" 190, pretty tall, but about average build. My knees were jammed into the seat in front of me for the entire flight and due to having to contort myself to find any semblance of comfort, woke up this morning with pulled muscles all up and down the right side of my back. Not pretty.
If you are over, say, 5'10", I would avoid these seats like the plague. I flew a 772 from LAX-GRU and a 773 back, and the 2-5-2 of the 772 was INFINITELY better, with both more pitch and more room all around, than the 773. Ugh. Never again. I didn't spring for the MCE so I could sit with my gf, but it was unbearable.
