ORD-DEN: 901 miles. DEN-ORD 888 miles. How?

I just completed a RT ORD-DEN-ORD on AA1435 and AA3773. AA gave me 901 miles on the outbound and 888 on the return. gcmap.com shows 888 miles, so I'm not complaining, just surprised their computer could mess this up. Anyone ever seen this before? Or maybe the world got smaller over the weekend?

When trying a sample booking on AA.com it says 901 miles each way... so maybe you took a shortcut on the way back

Winds aloft make the ground wrinkly and reduce the distance? Even the AA schedules change the mileage a mile or three on occasion. Maybe United Continental drift?

Did you happen to see one of these over Peoria on the way back?

ROFL! I love it! The nexus of these is said to be an address at or near DFW airport...

Based on taxi times after landing at ORD, I sometimes suspect we actually landed at Schaumburg Regional Airport to the west and drove the rest of the way. No credit for miles on the ground.

My guess is that the outbound mileage was somehow calculated to the location of the former Stapleton.

This issue came up previously in connection with a oneworld itinerary with a couple of transits through HKG. AA was still calculating distance based on the location of the old HKG airport, instead of the new one.

Not sure why AA would use the Stapleton distance for the outbound, and the Denver International distance for the return, but it looks like your outbound is on mainline service, and your return is on the Eagle.

I did a RT last week, AA789 ORD-DEN and AA706 DEN-ORD, 901 miles each way posted.

EDIT: Just tried your booking, like another posted above, (by schedule, where miles still show), and both flights show 901 miles as well.

Perhaps I missed the joke...

Yet AA's interactive route map gives it as 889 miles each way...

In general, if an airline flies around in circles while waiting for permission to land, would one get more miles?

It's true that the short leg was on Eagle, but as others have noted, the booking pages show 901 miles each way for all flights. Now I'm curious if others who have flown Eagle on that route have gotten the shorter routing.
