Exclamation $900 in taxes on 2 R/T award flights to mexico? (Mexico award fee & tax glitch)

I have an itinerary on hold for 2 R/T tickets to Puerto Vallarta in February 2015. The flights would be $2,500 retail.

The award redemption is 150,000 AA pts and $900 in taxes/fees. It's been a while since I've booked an AA award flight, but this seems really high. Is this typical? Any way around it?

We need more details to give you an informative response. Can you share the route and flights numbers? Is it all on AA metal?

No. Something is wrong with this, IMO. Transatlantic awards on BA, yes.

I'll move this to the proper forum. As it states in the "STOP! READ ME..." sticky thread, AA and US have not consolidated operations yet, the AA pre-merger forum is the proper place.

Are you looking at the AA.com booking engine or did an agent verify the fees?

It sounds really wrong. Additionally, AAdvantage uses miles, not points

I got the same price this am.

To the OP: clear your browser and try it again.

If it doesn't work, then call AA

Called AA - the rep initially told me the taxes I was quoted were correct. I told her the amount was insane and pressed her on it. Then she came back and said i was correct and it should be $182 total. She said she'd never seen that before. Thank you all for the help!
