2009 AAdvantage status year repurchase/buyback (consolidated)
I called AA this morning and they didn't have any info on this yet. I'm not going to be able to keep Gold status. How much should I expect to pay to buy my status for next year?

In the past, when these offers have been made they have been made in late February so you'll have to wait and see.

IIRC these offers have actually first appeared around mid-December. If AA intends to offer it again, I would expect it to be announced in the next week or two.

In the past years it was around 400$... alot of money just for Gold status.
Maybe a new account and a challenge is better for you.
I have just short of 10k miles with 1 more flight (DFW-TPA) coming in a few weeks.
I wasn't planning to buy it back...but then I looked at my honeymoon in late March/early April. We'll have 3 flights on AA with 2 bags/person to check. Thanks to bag fees, I'm already looking at $240 in bag fees. I'd happily pay another $160 even if it just gives me access to F security, exit seats, and the occasional sticker upgrade.
I was mainly wondering at what time of the year they announced the buy back. I didn't know if it would be January or late February.
If so, I seem to recall in these cases that no buyback has been allowed in previous years. And with the tightening of the Challenge, its not likely they'll loosen that up (if they offer buyback at all).
So go fly somewhere with the fiance for the holidays
<<Edited to add>> The above info appears to be incorrect. See corrected information below. Thanks oklAAhoma.

Your memory has failed you. Status buyback has not been allowed in consecutive years, but challengers have never been prohibited from extending their status with the buyback program.

Assuming that AA offers the program again, and assuming the rules don't change significantly, the fact that you are Gold via a challenge will not affect your eligibility to accept the buyback offer.
