Flagship Lounge: Best self made cocktails

Dear All,

Using ONLY the ingredients found in Flagship lounges (let us use the ORD one as a baseline) what are the best cocktails that one can make? Please post recipes.

This is a critical question for me as in 2012 I expect to hit the lounge atleast 2 dozen times while travelling to India and Europe and due to the connecting flights I have from DFW, I tend to have a lot of time.

Please note, that your suggestions/recipes should include ingredients commonly found at the Flagship lounge and not one offs

I promise to try all reasonable sounding recipes and will post on which the winning combination was

This thread will become a sticky (I predict) and a heavily subscribed thread, as now FT'ers will be able to figure out what to drink at the Flagship lounges, and I also predict an eventual iPhone app ("The Flagship Bartender")

Cheers (in anticipation!)

And extra points for any recipes the include the kibble from the dog food dispensers (although that may only be AC and not FL)

Cheers.

Inspirational thread. I usually just get a Laphroaig at the ORD FL, will have to try my hand at cocktails.

I'm trying to recall if it would be possible to put together an improvised Old-Fashioned. They've often got oranges, bitters perhaps (though not sure), not so sure how to get the simple syrup component, however...

We should ask if we could have a communal FT storage locker for drink fixings... like any respectable old-time club has.

Laphroaig? Are you sure? I only recall seeing Glenlivet 12 in the ORD FL (barely qualifying as a single malt). I'd be bummed if they really have Laphroaig and I've missed it.

Cheers.

AC not FL, but a sugar or other sweetener packet plus a dash of branch water is what I've had the bartender use when no simple syrup was available. I prefer one with simple syrup but a packet mimics the sugar cube recipe. ACs seem to have oranges at least some of the time.

+1 .. if they ever had Laphroaig, I would drink half a bottle of that and then make my own recipes for cocktails

On the subject of cocktails, they do have pre-made mixes (margarita mixes etc) but the end result is awful

Nothing like a freshly made cocktail from actual ingredients

If memory serves right (and really.. alcohol and memory do not go together) they have the following base ingredients at most Flagship lounges:

Base Ingredients

1. Lime (use a knife to generate zest or peel a rind)
2. Lemon (ditto as above)
3. Sugar
4. Bottled Water (mix with sugar to make your own simple syrup)
5. Worcestershire sauce
6. Cherries
7. Whipped Cream
8. Olives
9. Black Pepper
10. Tabasco
11. Salt (use a plate with a lot of salt to create your own salt rim setup)
12. Ice
13. Oranges (sometimes, maybe during the snack times)

For mixers they have:

1. Tonic Water
2. Cola
3. Sprite
4. Cranberry Juice
5. Bottled Water
6. Orange Juice
7. Tomato Juice
8. Ginger Ale
9. Lemon or Lime juice (maybe)
10. Grapefruit juice (maybe)

For liquor they have:

1. Vodka
2. White rum
3. Gin
4. Tequila
5. Amaretto
6. Blended Scotch Whisky
7. Single Malt Whisky
8. Vermouth (?)
9. Dark rum
10. Bourbon
11. Grand Marnier

From the wine collection they have:

1. Red wines (various)
2. White wines (various)
3. Champagne

From the mixer collection I vaguely remember:

1. Some martini mix
2. Bloody Mary mix
3. Margarita mix

Not sure I'd want to drink whatever you came up with after half a bottle of Laphroaig, but I'll share the bottle with you

Cheers.

A colleague of mine always orders "deconstructed" margaritas. The overly sweet margarita mixes are just awful.

Ingredients (served separately or "deconstructed"):
1 Lime in wedges
1.5 oz Tequila (or to taste)
Splash of Grand Marnier (optional)
1 Highball glass filled halfway with ice

Squeeze lime wedges over ice. Add tequila. Mix. Enjoy. Repeat.

Only bad tequila requires sugar to make it drinkable.

Having just come back from Prague (New Year's Eve there is unbelievable!!) I'm now on a kick to mix dark and lighter beers. So maybe some Guinness and Tsing Tao?

And that's where I run into my problem with making my own Bloody Marys. The lemons they provide are invariably very thin slices. I need wedges, preferably quarters. Oh, and some horseradish would be nice.
