Targeted Offer: Free AA PLT + 20 Free 500 Miles Upgrade HVFP1

AA is giving away AA PLT plus 20 free 500 miles upgrades to selected people. Offer Code: HVFP1. From FatWallet Forum:

http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/trav...ssion/1332423/

Doesn't work for me. I was a PLT in 2013, but will have no status in 2014. I was hoping it will work.

Strenge that I never EVER receive any offer from AA.

Stop flying AA for 12months then they might send you some offers!

AA is more intent on new customer aquisition then making enticing offers for Existing ones but thats another thread

AA.com has for some time rejected attempts to register by non-targeted enrollees. That is not a function of 'the new AA'.

Well nothing's more "Old AA" than handing out free status!

Giving away status is debatable. Giving away 20 upgrades is foolish.

Luring flyers away from United, though: priceless.

I think AA marketing has been doing a stellar job, dating back to September, 2012, when they offered 1K status matches to EXP with systemwides, and then without systemwides up front since. A lot of those are bound to be high revenue flyers. Might as well get some non-1K flyers in, too.

Well haven't flown much on AA this year due to flying mostly between US/Asia on other carriers. I did however fly enough to qualify for gold.

Odd thing is that I got the invite but for *gold* - which I'm already am till 2015.

My youngest daughter who only did one trans-pac flight on AA last year got the invite to Plat.

Is anyone truly surprised? The old AA gave status away like crazy, but the new AA won't be any better. After all, US sells its status to those willing to pay for it. The ranks will continue to swell as upgrade availability decreases. It's just a sign of the times. Lower-tier elites and some EXPs are going to be sitting in Y a lot more.
