Moderator Note:

Several master threads have been created for discussion related to specific topic areas, such as speculation on the new combined frequent flyer program, airport changes, inflight service changes, club access, etc.

There is a list of these threads in the wiki above.

This thread is for general discussion about the merger on topics not covered by the focused master threads.

Please help us keep this new forum organized so that it can serve the many users who will be looking for information on specific topics of concern to them. If you see a topic spring up here that is also the topic of a dedicated master thread, please use the 'Alert a Moderator to this Post' icon in the lower left-hand corner of each post to let us know so we can review it for possible movement into a more appropriate thread. (Providing a link in your note to the thread you believe it belongs in will greatly assist us in this process.)

Thank you!

American and US announced details on some aspects of the planned integration:

Some specific milestones include:
“January 7 will be a big day for us,” Scott Kirby, who will serve as the combined airline’s president, told Frequent Business Traveler in an interview last month.

On that day, each airline will recognize the other’s elite frequent flyers with reciprocal benefits. A passenger flying on American will be able to earn miles and status points on US Airways and vice versa as of that day as well. In addition, each airline’s lounge members will be granted reciprocal access at the other’s lounges.

Codeshared flights between the two airlines will begin some time in early 2014 as well, which will allow American to sell a US flight as its own as well as the other way around.

On March 31, a day after the airline leaves Star Alliance – the largest airline alliance in the world – US Airways will join American at oneworld. However, US Airways plans on retaining a relationship with 12 Star Alliance members, including Air China, TAM, and Turkish Airways, even after it leaves the alliance at the end of March. <SNIP>

Post AP Interview with Parker published today

Published today in Aviation Pros: http://www.aviationpros.com/news/112...n-airlines-ceo

Some interesting questions that he addresses. . .
  • Were Justice Department officials right when they said the merger would cause prices to rise?
  • Will you still compete chiefly on price?
  • What's the new American's frequent-flier program going to look like?
  • Can U.S. airlines ever provide the same level of service as the best Asian and Middle Eastern airlines?
  • Finally, why do people love to hate the airlines?

Oneworld released information about integration with US Airways.

Excerpt:
US Airways said it will leave Star Alliance, an airline alliance that includes United Airlines and Lufthansa, on March 30, 2014 and will become a member of the oneworld alliance the next day.

US Airways Dividend Miles members will receive new membership cards with the oneworld logo prior to March 31. Chairman-level members will be given Emerald status, the top level, in the oneworld program. Platinum- and Gold-level members will receive Sapphire status within oneworld, and Silver will be oneworld Ruby. All Dividend Miles members will receive miles and earn status points when flying on any oneworld-member airline starting on the 31st. The ability to redeem awards will be phased in. Members of other oneworld-member airlines will have the ability to receive miles and earn status points when flying on US Airways starting that day as well.

Everyone should have access to edit the wiki posts -- if that is not the case, please let us know asap and we'll get IB to fix it.

Everyone or is there a days/posts on FT requirement to edit wikis?

Note also that there are some wikis created by mods that are not open to editing by anyone who isn't a mod. IIRC there were some of these in the old AA forum.

Great questions. Will have to double check on your first question to be sure to provide an accurate response.

As to the second question, editing is enabled/restricted on a forum-by-forum basis and was rolled out in phases for beta and community testing purposes. Here, all wikiposts should be accessible to all members, not just moderators and/or Ambassadors, with the exception noted above.

That's one of our goals in the new forum - for everyone to contribute to the wikiposts!

Yes, as miamigrad said, JDiver is currently traveling.

Perhaps the rest of us will take off for a few days and let him handle the forum on his own

And personally, I will never forgive him!

He has amassed quite a debt these past few days.
