Seriously: they should think about it. Maybe they don't need it right now, but it wil take years to receive them, and they may have issues in the future in terms of capacity management.

Certainly the A330 isn't ideal for All routes

AZ could go for the 747-8 - less waiting time and ok for quite a few routes vis a vis capacity

It's all very nice to say they should buy a b747, a380 or whatever, but for now they haven't got enough cash. It's already good news that they have secured AP's order for 12 A350's, which should start coming in after the A330's, towards 2015, and will seat some 290 passengers, like the 777.

I agree with you but they don't have pay today for a plane they would get today. They should order today the planes they will need in 5-10 years.
The order backlogs are very long it, except for the 747-8, so they need to hurry up and get a good delivery slot, otherwise it will take ages before receiving anything with 2 wings and at least 300 seats.

AZ is simply shifting capacity away from Tokyo and reassign on to other routes. Doesn't mean 747-8 is needed.

I am sure that if they really want to they can "turn" an option for an A350 into an A380, or better still AF could "gift" AZ one of their options..

There are solutions

I really don't think that AZ can "live" off A330 + A350 for longhaul (although AY and IB do now with A330/340 and A340 respectively..)
