Did AS abandon "book the cook"?

Recently, there was some chatter about AS moving towards "book the cook," i.e., reserve your meal in advance (e.g., 6 hours or more before the departure time) if flying F. Did AS abandon that effort?

Apparently so, as it never rolled out even on a test basis.

I wouldn't call that "Book the Cook". Just a pre-selection of the meal so you know AS won't run out of your choice.

Even that is apparently too much of a logistical challenge.

Try AA. It works quite nicely.

Yes, I'm sure AS would launch a program where Tom Douglas will board the aircraft and personally re-heat your F meal in the forward galley.

I'd love to be able to reserve in advance between a choice of a Cuban sandwich or a Cuban sandwich.

Mmm!

I *could not* find a Cuban sandwich in Cuba...

Perhaps it was the language barrier

Perhaps it is just called a Sandwich. Kind of like bread in France.

Tried that. @BOB W and I ended up with a very stale piece of bread, and a small piece of meat and cheese. Reminded me of DL

The mini-pizzas encountered were interesting however

A traditional "Cuban" as we know it is a product of the Cuban population Miami, not from Cuba itself.

Supposedly it did roll out on a test basis on flights ONLY between SEA and IAD/DCA, IIRC. I can't find the thread or post but it was referenced somewhere. Not sure if it's true as I have never and won't ever fly those routes.

Most of the things that AS "tests" (small plates, pillows and blankets, PDBs, etc, etc) go the way of the dodo so maybe the test is done and the data is being analyzed or has been analyzed and the decision was to forget about it

edit: looks like the post was linked above in post #3 of this thread. thanks mbluecpa
