737-800 F Seats Terrible
Just completed a trip SMF-OGG-SMF in F class on an AS 737-800. The seat was horrible. Only 36" of legroom vs. 42" on HA. Even AA's 737-800's have 40". I'm unable to find any other major carrier with a pitch as small as AS has. The seat backs are so thick (maybe 5") that as soon as you try to put your seat back you're in the lap of the person behind you. Seat itself was quite uncomfortable. This made for very uncomfortable long flights. I hope F seat replacements are in the works before we fly them again.

If you want a better F product to the islands and don't care about miles, fly HA.
Personally I have yet to find any meaningful differences in the domestic F hard product on 737's between any of the major U.S. Carriers. It is what it is.

To us, there sure was a BIG difference between the F seats on AA and those on AS. Just the seat pitch alone is significant.

Even HA inter-island 717 flights in F are better than Alaska 737 - F. I LOVE it when I get a 737-700 or 737-400 with the "old" new F seats from the 737-800s
Delta 737-800s even have more space.
AA - more legroom, but I also love the fact the tray table swivels... I wish more F cabins had that!

The AS F seats are fine for what they are. The trade-off for improving them would be 12 seats instead of 16. Very few would be in favor of that.
AA and DL offer premium F seats on some of their Hawaii flights. VX will join them in November.

As for 36" on AS, it's not generous, depending on thickness of seat back.

I have to agree that the legroom is less than ideal. A bigger issue for me is that the seat is just plain uncomfortable.
I would love to have the swivel tray table as well. Based on how long the last design of seat was in use I think we are going to have to live with these for quite a while.

Disagree in the sense that I find the 738 F seats to be comfortable...much better than the slimmer seats they replaced.
But, the pitch in F was also reduced, which is unfortunate. I really wish AS would remove one row of Y seating to expand F legroom and add a quasi "economy comfort" section to compete with Delta. Obviously they would only do this if they felt they could generate enough extra revenue to offset the loss of 6 seats.

hmm. me, i'm just exceptionally happy to be able to fly non-stop between SMF and OGG, and be able to do it in F for $500rt with advanced purchase K fares + GGUs. YMMV it seems.

I much prefer a 32" pitch anywhere in Y...
