UPDATE DEC 12th 2016
New conditions for retaining matched status with AB:

If you are a member of another Frequent Flyer Program, you can match your status and receive the topbonus status card for 12 months for free.
Within 6 months, you are required to collect either 10.000 status miles or 10 flight segments, in order to maintain your Silver Card until the 12th month.
Within 6 months, you are required to collect either 20.000 status miles or 25 flight segments, in order to maintain your Gold Card until the 12th month.

Was matched end of June. Original was 4/2017, matched till 7/2017.

When does new status expire?

Does status expire 1 year after the date you are matched?

Does Sapphire allow you to pick exit row seats on AA and LAN?

Expires one year after match. I've been able to choose Main Cabin Extra seats for free on AA with my Air Berlin gold status.

Original is the validity of the card I used to request the match

Well. I got my status matched from LHH FF to topbonus silver.... tried to use their exclusive waiting area or how ever they call it at Berlin TXL T3 and was denied access. Contacted their service line... no help there. contacted their twitter account... no help either. Emailed top bonus and well ... guess what? they couldnt help either. Talk about giving a great first impression.

All channels gave the same response... well... you do have silver status. dont know why you cant access.
just my 2 cents and 1st experience with top bonus.

For those of us based in the USA, it seems that a booking of a transatlantic flight on AB is required to proceed with the match. Any idea if an award flight is sufficient to satisfy this requirement? I assume not.

I don't think so as they just ask for proof of future flight to match you and you get matched before actually flying.
