Air Canada miles vs United Miles?
Hi Everyone,
If I buy a ticket from Air Canada website, will I be able to claim the miles for my United Mileage account instead of Aeroplan miles?
Second question, is it better to collect United Miles or Aeroplan miles?
Thank you.

1) yes, but if this is a cheap economy ticket, probably no more than 50%
2) depends on the type of flyer you are, and tickets you buy, what you want the points for.

1) YYZ-YUL, paid C$106 and earned 517 redeemable miles
2) YUL-YYZ, paid C$117 and earned 594 redeemable miles
Only earned 125 PQMs for each flight though (same as if purchased on AC site). And note that I am 1K so earning max redeemable miles (11 miles/$ spent after taxes and converted to USD).
I believe I would have earned 125 redeemable miles for each flight if I had booked on AC site.
Sigh, this is so complicated. Maybe someone else can figure out how many status miles/redeemable miles a person would earn when crediting to AC.

Since you are buying it from AC.com, earning will be distance-based regardless of whether it is credited to Aeroplan or MileagePlus. The earning rates for redeemable miles for AC-ticketed AC-operated flights are fairly similar between MP and AE.
Differences:
* business class earns 200% when credited to MP, 150% on AE
* premium economy earns 100% on MP, 125% on AE
* Latitude earns 150% on MP, 125% on AE
* some low-Flex fares only earn 75% on MP vs 100% on AE
* Tango earnings are the same
