Checked bag issue?

Hello,

I just flew from phx - yvr (biz) and then i fly from yvr - ylw tomorrow (booked in tango). My assumption was that because my connecting flight is within 24 hours, i would not have to pay bag fees for the yvr - ylw flight? When i go to check in for the flight tomorrow it tries to charge me, is this correct or should i get a free bag?

Cheers,
Ian

Separate tickets would mean it's not a "connection".

eUps would imply status which would imply no bag fees anyway.

I think it would be based on your "fare code". However in N.America- I don't think you get 24 hours for connection so I would expect the fare has been split. Perhaps what I would ask is to ensure it is tagged through. That may be possible - you may even get your connecting boarding pass - then you can pick up the bags in Vancouver to clear customers anyway.

I would think you will be charged for checked baggage out of YVR. It sounds like you are not booked on a X ticket for your connection because of the class change. Therefore, your connection sounds like to separate tickets, which is not truly a connection, but a stop.

If you on flying on the J ticket, and your connecting flight has no J, you will not be put into tango class.

We bought J ticket with 2 segments. On the segment without J the ticket says we will be in Y. We did have choice of priority seats, same baggage rules etc.

Your service is not connecting hence, may be subject to applicable bag fee. A connection within North Anerica allows 4hrs, with only certain overnight (last-in/first-out) exceptions.

Actually, it sounds like this was a single fare rather than a split fare, so it may indeed be the case that OP will get the baggage waiver, but that would be done by the agent at check-in, not online. So, don't prepay

I have never seen a J fare that books in Tango for the connecting no-J flights.

I've seen cheap P fares book into V, but even that was a rare anomaly.

It's usually Y.

That's why I don't think it's a "connection".

North American connections are 4 hrs, or last flight in / first flight out...

Assuming you came in on AC1841 (only direct flight from PHX - YVR that I could find on AC on Feb 13), the last flight you could have taken was AC8418 on Feb 13 for it to count as a connection...

I've run into this issue before when booking LAX - YVR - YYJ. My LAX-YVR flight lands around 8pm, and if I want to avoid it pricing as 2 segments, the latest flight I can take on YVR - YYJ is AC8087 at 23:30 the same day.

It can't be a single fare, because the fare classes are different on each flight.
