We'll allow all points in Canada.

Interesting that AC's YYZ-DXB are all on days that EK does not fly the route. On DXB-YYZ they overlap on Monday and Wednesday although AC is a very late departure while EK leaves in the morning.

Wonder if they'll play nice and end up codesharing - doubtful but stranger things have happened.

Agreed. I only wish EK would be allowed to fly out of YVR.

According to the press release it will be 1x 788 and 2x 789, with the ex-Canada Tuesday flight operating as the 788.

Fuel burn of the 787 is roughly half of an A380 and seats 50-60% of an A380 in AC configs, though EK is more premium heavy. If AC gets higher yielding O&D and EK gets connections, I could see it working.

As per the fine print in the press release twice per week 787-9 (Thursday, Saturday, returning Friday, Sunday) and once per week 787-8 (Tuesday return Wednesday)

I wonder if Etihad will code share these flights. They have shown a greater willingness than EK to code-share with partners, and there is no reason under the bilateral why they can't, even if Dubai isn't their hub.

I do wonder how AC will make a go of this and whether it is politically-driven.

Another thing that just came to mind.

I was looking at a trip to DXB a while back from YUL. Wanting to us *A, I had 4 options and they were all sketchy in their own way:

UA has a direct from IAH but that requires double immigration and, of course, flying UA.
LH/LX have awful connection times with 6 to 12 hour layovers each way.
TK has somewhat better connections, but still usually 7 hours on the return.

This option is interesting for those who wish to stay on *A and not have connections that are too long (or too short for actually doing anything).

Don't know about Y, but who would choose AC over the 380 in J? And if you add in a very reasonable price (and the possibility of flying to Asia or Australia for ~$6000 r/t), as well as the ability to upgrade to F with Skywards miles, I know what my choice would be (has been).

Surely it all comes down to price and convenience? I know I was looking at YYZ to MLE via DXB and it was surprisingly inexpensive in J--about $5k all in IIRC. So while I am skeptical that AC will be competitive with others unless DXB is your final destination, we will have to wait for the route to go on sale before making a call?

I hope AC has planned a code-share/JV with Emirates

You think EK has any desire to fly to Vancouver?

Feels liks AC has been at the gym for the last 8 months, They put on some muscle and now seem ready and willing to take on once-feared opponents. DEL + DXB combo is a punch aimed squarely at EK. Is AC getting some DL like swagger and willing to lose $ to keep market and announce they'e no longer a walkover?
Could be a dangerous game with the likes of EK

Are you saying the EK 380 J seat is superior to AC 787 J seat?
