Cheap Intra-Africa Flying

Hello all,

Are there any resources, tools, or blogs to follow for looking for cheap or mistake fares for intra-Africa travel (i.e. Cairo to Nairobi).

I generally see a lot of people posting about getting to Africa but not a lot of flight tips going from country to country.

Thanks a lot!

The secret for that route is to consider connecting in Ethiopia or the Middle East.

I've tried both of those and can't seem to get a roundtrip under $370.

Is that around the best that I'll be able to do?

Yes. You realize it's 2,200 miles one way and that there's only one airline flying the route nonstop?

$370 is very cheap for that route. You'd be lucky to get that.

By "cheap" fares - I consider using miles.
They are relatively inexpensive (miles-wise) to connect throughout the continent. Star Alliance is a pretty decent network here (ADD/JNB/CAI hubs)

Africa pass- which I don't know much about - may be something to consider as well

In practice most intra Africa airlines do not operate on a commercial basis. More for the government ministers, bureaucrats, their familles & assorted lackeys (wabenzi). As above, often the best price between African countries is via Europe or the Middle That’s Africa!

$370 return is cheap. I would have expected that route to be closed to $550.

Yeah it took me awhile to find that. I'd do overland instead but from every indication that's even more expensive.

Perfect, maybe I can use miles into ADD then. That could be fun
