Rhino horns, elephant tusks and weapons discovered at game reserve
"Rhino 08 Poaching Task Team investigators have arrested a 68-year-old farm manager in the Timbavati after they discovered rhino horns, ivory tusks and a huge arsenal of weapons and ammunition at Sandringham Game Reserve on Thursday.
SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo said Samuel Liversage was arrested after police searched the grounds at Sandringham.
"Ten rhino horns, two large elephant tusks, 11 hunting rifles, of which four are unlicensed, over 1300 rounds of live ammunition and over 150 empty cartridges were seized by the members. All 11 rifles, including the licensed weapons, were confiscated and sent for ballistic testing" Naidoo said."

Sandringham is actually a fenced hunting farm between the Orpen Road and the Timbavati. I heard recently that the owners were planning to cease hunting and sell the farm off in portions.

the Rhino 08 team arrested a SAPS stock-theft unit captain and gunsmith, Captain Chris Du Plessis and three others for illegally killing a giraffe at the East Gate Game Farm, outside Hoedspruit.
Du Plessis was arrested when the Rhino 08 team found an unlicensed revolver, 1 x 270 rifle barrel, one wooden rifle butt, approximately 70 rifle rounds, an unlicensed firearm with the serial number filed off, and a 303 cartridge in his vehicle. Police say they have good reason to believe rifle parts and barrels are being inter-changed and swapped in a ruse to confuse ballistics forensic test analysis.
Du Plessis was investigated by the Hawks for illegal weapons charges and hunting illegally in 2013, but the charges were never finalised, a police official has confirmed.

Poachers in Namibia could face 40 years behind bars
"The amendment to the law, which came into effect this year, will see any person found guilty of illegal hunting of elephant or rhino fined N$25 million (€1.57m) instead of the current N$20 000 (€1 255). Poachers may also face 20 years behind bars, 15 years more than under the previous law. Imprisonment can be imposed along with the fine.
In the case of subsequent convictions for hunting elephant, rhino or specially protected game, the maximum fine goes up to N$50 million (€3.13m) and can be combined with imprisonment for up to 40 years."

On a related note, elephant rides have been banned in Zambia with pressure on Zimbabwe to stop them.

Croatian trophy hunter killed during lion hunt
Pero Jelinic, from Croatia, and two other Croatians, were hunting captive-bred lions at Leeubosch Lodge near Setlagole, when the incident occurred. . . . the hunting party had already killed a lion, and were tracking a second cat, when Jelinic was struck by a bullet.

Glad to see karma working as advertised, but sad an innocent lion had to lose their life before this moron received his just desserts.

I have absolute no pity for such hunters. It is a risk they take and should except. As Johan says. It is Karma. And karma is a ...... Trophy hunting is a sad sad thing as the prey hardly has a chance.

Man arrested with 4 rhino horns
"A routine police stop and search at Nkomazi Plaza in Mpumalanga, led to the arrest of a man allegedly trading in rhino horn.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said the officers were doing their daily operations when they stopped a sedan being driven by a 38-year-old man.
“They noticed that the man had a cooler box on the passenger seat and upon opening it, they made the discovery [of four rhino horns]” he said. "
Nkomazi is a toll plaza on the N4. I wonder how often the cops search cooler boxed during "routine" stops.
